Giving of Ourselves Spiritually

Christians pray. Of course, people from many other religions and spiritual backgrounds pray too. As Christians, we believe an important part of our lives is making a spiritual offering to God. There are so many different ways to pray that trying to describe them here would surely do prayer an injustice. In brief then, we can pray privately (in our homes with family members, on the beach by ourselves, while walking with a best friend) and we can pray publicly (in a church or other worship setting with others praying with us).

If you would like to discuss private prayer, Call the church at 781-272-1586 to speak with our rector.

Public prayer or worship services are offered at St. Mark’s Church on a regular basis. Throughout the year we celebrate Holy Eucharist at 8 AM and 9:30 AM on Sundays and at Noon on Wednesdays. Holy Eucharist is also known as Holy Communion, the Lord’s Supper or Mass. During the service of Holy Eucharist we come together in a place where know and can trust that we all belong. We hear God’s word read to us from the Bible, we hear an interpretation of God’s message for us in the sermon and sometimes we sing. We proclaim our beliefs as stated in the ancient creeds of the church and we offer prayers of adoration, praise, thanksgiving, penitence, oblation, intercession, and petition. We also participate in the actions Jesus told us to continue is his name as we eat the bread and the drink the wine of communion. All are welcome to share in this wonderful gift God has given us in communion. We are sent forth from worship renewed and strengthened to live our lives as those who follow Christ.

We invite you to join with us for worship. Jesus said, “Where two or more are gathered in my name, there am I in the midst of them.” (Matthew 18:20)
