What About Teenagers?

Teenagers are on the brink of becoming adults. Their interests and needs are different from those of younger children.  Too often they are overlooked when a parish is planning education or activities because some people think they belong with the children and some people think they should be with the adults.  Teens are unique and we need special programs just for them.  Here is what we offer for youth.

First is Sunday School.  Youth in grades 6 through 12 will have Sunday School classes 9 AM to 10:10 AM.  The curriculum is oriented around contemporary issues of concern for youth. Acolytes may leave at 9:20 AM to prepare for worship on the Sundays they are scheduled to serve.

Second is Youth Group.  We have regular meetings for youth in grades 6 – 12.  Because Sunday School is more for learning, Youth Group will be for being with friends, discussing concerns with other teens with the guidance of adults, and sharing our faith.

We meet the first and third Sundays of the month 11am-1pm and lunch is provided.

Third is special trips and outings with the youth on a regular basis. This summer we went to Six Flags New England.  In the fall and winter we may go bowling, make a trip to the mall, eat out and go skiing.  This is just plain fun and open to all youth in grades 6 through 12.

Fourth is confirmation. There are seven sacraments in the Episcopal Church and Confirmation is usually received in the teen years. Special classes to prepare for Confirmation will be offered. Please contact the rector for more details.
