St. Marks Church engages in outreach activities in various ways. We believe that our faith and our community are strengthened when we help others. If you would like to volunteer in any of these areas of outreach, please contact the rector or the number listed.
| Food Pantry | The Burlington Food Pantry is located on the grounds of St. Marks in our little building. The Food Pantry serves the needy population in Burlington and a few surrounding towns. Volunteers are needed to drive and help in the building itself. Donations of non perishable food items are always welcome. Please call 781-270-6625 for more information. |
| House of Hope Dinner | The House of Hope is a residential facility located in Lowell, MA. Members of St. Marks cook and serve dinner once a month for the women and children who live there. We usually provide the meal on the third Tuesday of the month. Volunteers are needed to purchase food, prepare the food in advance and serve the meal that day. Karen Hanson coordinates this ministry. |
| Peace Scholarship | The Cooperating Congregations of Burlington (St. Marks, St. Malachys, St. Margarets, Temple Shalom Emeth, Burlington Presbyterian, United Church of Christ Congregational) are providing Peace Scholarships for the third year. The Peace Scholarship Program began in 1999 as one of the ways our congregations could recognize and promote violence prevention and peace promoting measures for young people. This year we are giving three $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors of Burlington High School who have promoted peace in their school and/or community. If you would like to serve on the committee please contact the rector. |
| Financial Gifts | St. Marks makes financial contributions each year to various organizations whose goal is it to help others. In the past few years we have contributed to the Lillian Vallely School in Idaho, the Support Committee for Battered Women based in Waltham, the House of Hope in Lowell, the Home of Love and Hope in Honduras, the Womens Lunch Place in Boston, and Camp Saint Augustine in Boston, among others. Many of these gifts were made possible by gifts made to the Endowment Fund at St. Marks. For more information on the Endowment and how to make a gift to it, contact the parish treasurer or our rector. |
| Wish Tree | People Helping People sponsors the Wish Tree each year. This holiday program provides gifts and toys to needy people in December each year. Donations of gifts are collected in December at the church. Volunteers are needed to help coordinate this program, especially this year. For more information about this program please call 781-270-6625. If you leave a message with your name and telephone number, someone will call you back and answer any questions you might have about volunteering. |
